Duties Description Academic Year Evening & Weekend Sun-Thurs 3:15pm-11:15pm (Intersession and Summer schedule changes to be discussed at interview)”

Provides lending and access services to library users in the University and Science libraries for a wide range of library materials and resources, including reserves, media, rooms/facilities, and equipment (laptops, cameras, etc.); effective communication with library users, face-to-face, by phone, and by email; staffing circulation service points in the University (including IMC) and Science libraries; assisting library users in locating materials in the stacks and other library locations; performing advanced circulation transactions and accurately explaining lending policies and procedures; troubleshooting and reporting problems to supervisors and appropriate library/university personnel and communicating this information to appropriate personnel and service points in the Libraries; assisting library users with basic searches in the library website or catalog; understanding library-wide services and making effective referrals; Assists Access Services Student Supervisor with supervising student employees: collaborates with other Access Services staff to train and supervise College Work Study and Temporary Services student assistants; serves as a backup to Student Supervisor and addresses incidents as they arise; processes student timesheets; conveys trends and any issues that arise; assists with student hiring and developing and implementing new initiatives; assists with training other department staff member(s) to perform tasks related to student employee supervision; Trains and directs student employees and new staff in procedures and policies related to circulation desk services, processing/scanning materials, collection maintenance tasks, and participates in cross-training initiatives; recommends user-centered workflows and procedures to enhance use and access to library collections and resources; Completes functions for the Department’s daily materials delivery operations; locating, retrieving, and processing/scanning materials for Inter-Library Loan, Document Delivery, and reserves services using ILL and reserves systems and technologies (e.g., ILLiad, Rapid, ALMA, Ares, ScannX); Provides support for equipment and technology available in library facilities; Understands how to use and troubleshoot equipment including, but not limited to: photocopiers, printers, scanners, microform reader/scanners, presentation technology, media playback equipment, and Standish room A/V equipment; Assists library users in using equipment; Troubleshoots and resolves basic equipment and technology problems, refers users to appropriate services for additional assistance; Completes tasks for the Department’s daily collection maintenance functions, ensuring that materials are properly re-shelved in a timely manner and projects (e.g., collection shifting, shelf reading, cleaning) are completed accurately, efficiently, and according to priorities set by supervisor; Interacts effectively and in a professional manner with peers, supervisors, and other library staff; contributes to interpersonal and working relationships of trust and respect; maintains a courteous and professional manner while interacting with student assistants and library users; promotes the goals and objectives of the Access Services Department and the University Libraries.
