Minimum Qualifications We are seeking a candidate with at least eight (8) years of complex civil litigation experience. Experience in some or all of the following areas is preferred but not required: supervision of other lawyers; development and management of complex investigations or impact litigation; and affirmative investigations or litigation of wage and hour or other labor-related violations.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.

Duties Description The Labor Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Civil Enforcement Section Chief (Section Chief) in New York City. The Labor Bureau has been nationally recognized for aggressively enforcing labor standards in low-wage industries. Recent enforcement actions in the Civil Enforcement Section have targeted wage theft in a variety of industries, including construction, fast food, home health care, and car washing, and retaliation targeting immigrant workers. The Civil Enforcement Section has taken on emerging areas, such as anticompetitive labor practices like non-compete agreements, and nationally, the Labor Bureau has been at the forefront of multi-state efforts to fight federal rollbacks of critical labor protections. The Labor Bureau also includes a criminal enforcement section and sections which represent the New York State Department of Labor and Workers’ Compensation Board in their enforcement of state labor laws.

The Section Chief will be a critical part of the bureau’s leadership. The Section Chief will develop the Bureau’s enforcement strategies and supervise approximately six lawyers who investigate and litigate matters concerning labor law violations using a strategic enforcement model. In addition, the Section Chief will help oversee the Bureau’s public policy work, education materials, and outreach to stakeholders. The Section Chief will report to the Deputy Bureau Chief and work closely with the Bureau Chief.
