Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State AND have one year of post-RN licensure clinical nursing experience.

OR

Must currently be a permanent Nurse 1 with one year of post-licensure registered nurse clinical experience.

OR

Must be active and reachable on the Civil Service Eligible List for Nurse 2.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide/prepare for routine and emergent consumer care including assessing/triaging consumers and obtaining vital signs, EKGs, performing finger-sticks, catheterizations, IM and subcutaneous injections (immunizations, Prolia, B-12, Haldol, etc), assisting with minor procedures and annual physicals, helping with Eye Clinic, etc.
• Process orders, consultation forms, prescriptions, etc. generated from above visits correctly and in a timely manner. This also includes creating/processing referrals to outside specialty providers.
• Create/process electronic prescriptions, durable medical equipment justifications and prior authorizations for medications.
• Triage incoming phone calls, labs, mail and consults ensuring timely follow up by practitioner and compliance with Article 16 rules.
• Organize practitioner work-load in an equitable manner throughout the day
• Be liaison between Residential RNs/staff and Clinic practitioners (and other Article 16 practitioners as necessary) to ensure consumer needs are met in a timely manner.
• Create laboratory requisitions/prescriptions for routine and PRN lab work using correct ICD codes.
• Draw/process labs including blood, urine, stool, cytology and pathology specimens.
• Sterilize reusable equipment as appropriate and perform monthly testing and routine maintenance of sterilizer.
• Maintain up-to-date supplies for minor procedures, lab draws, immunizations, sterilizer/EKG/INR machines, etc.
• Maintain Immunization and Lab fridges/freezers including monitoring temperature, cleaning and defrosting as needed.
• Maintain OSHA standards and supplies, includes laundering gowns and towels as needed and packaging biohazardous waste and arranging for pick-up as needed.
• Cover for Medical Records and Clinic Secretaries as needed including answering phones, scheduling appts, copying, faxing, accepting deliveries, etc.
• Perform other Clinic tasks as needed.

The Candidate must be able to perform CPR compressions on a supine individual on the floor. The Nurse demonstration of CPR compressions on the floor would ensure nurse ability to perform in worst case scenario; since we use no backboards in OPWDD.
The Candidate must be able to perform manual physical interventions of The Strategies in Crisis Intervention and Prevention course. The interventions include but are not limited to releases, holds and takedowns. Must be able to lift arms over the head, get on the floor in lying or kneeling position.

$57,722 - $71,557 - Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 16 ($50,722), and Geographic Differential ($7,000). Geographic Differential added to the job rate ($64,557) for the PS&T Grade 16. Additional compensation may apply based on the shift assignment.
