1. Permanent service as a Chief Occupational Therapist

OR

2. Eligible to 70.1 transfer to a Chief Occupational Therapist AND be licensed and currently registered with the NYS Education Department Office of the Professions to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State.

Provisional Appointment:
In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:

Either A. one year as a Head Occupational Therapist;

Or B. two years as a Senior Occupational Therapist.

Note: If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Duties consistent with Occupational Therapy classification and standards set forth in Civil Service. Supervisory level position, overseeing and supervising an occupational therapy program or department and associated staff- planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating occupational therapy programs and services across the 7 counties served by OPWDD Region 1- Western.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide leadership for Occupational Therapy department- assist planning and co-chair department meetings; provide direct supervision to and act as a resource for OT discipline staff; mentor by providing information, guidance, and consultation; complete probationary and performance reviews; review/approve TIMES, SFS submissions, schedules, etc; promote professional skill development; ensure and participate in orientation for new OT discipline staff, including relevant standards, procedures, documentation and billing requirements, etc; oversee OT student fieldwork program; manage department purchase requests/ordering; participate in lead in discipline meetings and discipline coordinator meetings; participate in statewide OT/PT Communities of Practice videoconferences; monitor and manage OT caseload/workload assignments; follow up on incomplete (over 30 day) OT referrals; advocate for resource allocation and work with HRMO to fill allocated items; assist in OT service delivery as needed; ensure clinic and day hab OTA’s have a written supervision plan as per NYS Education Department Office of the Professions Laws, Rules and Regulations; provide clinical supervision to clinic COTA’s, when they do not have a OTR assigned to do so; work cooperatively with other discipline coordinators in areas/projects of common concern; facilitate OT department in successful transition to the electronic health record and resumption of billing 3rd party payers.
2. Ensure compliance with standards- participates in development/revision of standards of practice relevant to OT discipline; participates in bi-monthly clinic management audits to ensure OT discipline documentation and billing standards are being met; periodically review discipline documentation and billing.
3. Acts as an IFEAST resource, along with nutrition and speech discipline coordinators- participate in discipline coordinator mealtime audits; participate in review of difficult IFEAST cases or when there is disagreement of IFEAST team members of how to proceed.
4. Carry out designated agency-wide responsibilities and special assignments- complete AOD assignments; participate in agency committees and work groups; maintains agency-wide perspective through collaboration in cross-functional discussions/projects; facilitates discipline participation in facility new employee orientation; participate as an instructor for OT portions of facility new employee orientation and other agency training initiatives as appropriate; participate in new supervisor learning forums; attend program operations meetings; attend leadership forums.
5. Communication/Miscellaneous- communicate changes in schedule/location to key clinic staff; follow established call in procedures; keep time and attendance current and timely submission; complete and submit discipline monthly report form to supervisor and Deputy Director of State Operations office within requested time frame.
6. Professional Development/Responsibilities- attend/complete mandated DDSO trainings; expand professional knowledge and skills through attendance at seminars, conferences, and discipline meetings; maintain licensure/certification.
