Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience providing services targeted to low income or prison populations: 1) in a public health or a counseling program; 2) in a health-related, health education or a recognized community-based organization, or 3) as a health planner (e.g. CPR Training, Cooperative Extension - nutrition, family planning, or other appropriate areas). College study in a health, education, counseling, psychology, or social work field may be substituted for the required experience at a rate of 30 credits equaling one year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college. At least two years’ experience in health-related direct patient/person interaction and field-based experience in outreach or other community service activities. Knowledge of public health principles and practices of epidemiology relating to communicable diseases; Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with attention to detail. Ability to maintain effective disease intervention-based collaborations with community partners; must be self-motivated and possess excellent computer skills. Experience with social media and internet interventions.

Duties Description The AIDS Program Representative 1 (APR1) position will be part of a public health team that has a role in helping to end the AIDS epidemic by applying preventive and public health knowledge, techniques, and skills to reduce the incidence of communicable diseases through surveillance of disease trends; and accessing disease reporting systems to conduct confidential investigations of persons suspected to be either the source of, or having contact with, known sexually transmitted disease cases (ie. syphilis, gonorrhea, and HIV) in the Metropolitan Region. The APR1 will also be recording the content of interviews; determining source(s) of infection; explaining procedures and treatment; locating persons whose treatment is incomplete and/or needs to be reconnected to care and treatment; referring high-risk HIV negative patients and partners to PrEP services; maintaining appropriate logs; compiling and tabulating statistics; preparing written reports; maintaining records and files; obtaining referrals/reports from providers; and assisting newly diagnosed HIV clients into care and refer those who have fallen out of care back into care services. The incumbent will also be required to perform rapid field testing and venipuncture when necessary and incorporate evidence-based interventions into face-to-face interactions.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, non-competitive. Travel is required; Position requires a current, valid NYS driver's license. Must demonstrate a capacity to transport him/herself to work assignments in distant areas within the region not served by public transportation.
