Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including or supplemented by twelve (12) semester credit hours in forestry which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas: silviculture, forest mensuration, forest protection, forest soils, dendrology botany, land surveying and forest biology,
OR
one (1) year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two (2) or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products; nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests.
Preferred qualifications:
Knowledge of silviculture and dendrology, strong interpretation, analysis and writing skills and be proficient in the use and application of ArcMap 10 GIS and Microsoft Office software.
Duties Description The candidate will assist with the administration of the NYSDEC's Conservation Easement Program within St. Lawrence County, under the supervision the Region 6 Conservation Easement Coordinator. Responsibilities will include field inspections of Conservation Easement lands; documentation of natural or human caused changes; and detailed analysis of easement terms to determine compliance. GIS data manipulation & mapping, GPS work, processing of field data and report writing will be additional duties.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions.
This is a seasonal hourly appointment with funding anticipated through 3/31/20. Actual work schedule may vary and will be discussed at interview.
