Minimum Qualifications Current Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services employee with permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service as a Food Service Worker 2; OR current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c services as a Food Service Worker 2; OR current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service in the title of Dietitian 1, Dietitian 2, Nutrition Services Administrator 1 or Nutrition Services Administrator 2 position and be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Duties Description The Encumbent position will plan and schedule appropriate coverage for assigned dining room or kitchen activities at the fire training academy.
The Food Service Worker 2 will:
• Clean, prepare, cook and serve any type of food including full course meals, fruits, vegetables, homemade soups, salads and desserts while maintaining work area in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Ensure that breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in a timely, professional and accommodating manner in accordance with established guidelines.
• Perform and supervise clean-up of the kitchen and dining room facilities and maintain sanitary conditions in accordance with NYS Health Department standards.
• Have frequent oral communication with kitchen staff and others to exchange information relating to food service activities.
• Provide in-service training, supervision, direction, correction and evaluation of the work of subordinates responsible for food preparation, food portion control, food storage, appropriate dish washing and other cleaning actions, ensuring proper procedures and techniques are followed.
• Supervise other subordinate cleaning or maintenance staff as necessary.
• Requisition food and needed supplies in compliance with established OGS procurement guidelines and oversee proper storage and safekeeping and act as liaison with vendors.
• Additionally, the Food Service Worker 2 may supervise and/or perform any or all the tasks outlined in the classification standard for Food Service Worker 1.
Operating Needs: Must have, or be willing and able to obtain, ServSafe food safety training and certification.
*Shifts:
These are rotating shifts that include weekends. The kitchen is operational seven days a week.
