Minimum Qualifications Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1 (G22); OR New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent- permanent competitive service in a title at or above a G20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 or 70.4 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidates would have experience working in a community public health program and have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills. The ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities is required.
Duties Description The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program which provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs and adults in day care.
The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN1) will assist with the oversight for the Eat Well Play Hard in Child Care Settings (EWPHCCS), a USDA SNAP–Ed Grant. EWPHCCS focuses on improving the nutrition and physical activity behaviors of preschool children and their parents while influencing the nutrition and physical activity practices in child care centers. The PHN1 provides nutrition expertise and technical assistance to ensure the quality and safety of program implementation; approves and monitors budgets and vouchers to ensure funds are spent according to federal requirements; provides resources and technical assistance to contractor staff; monitors grant deliverables; and ensures SNAP-Ed requirements are met. The PHN1 must become knowledgeable about CACFP, SNAP-Ed program regulations, payment systems, and oversight requirements. On-site visits conducted by the PHN1 will also monitor and evaluate fiscal and administrative integrity and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Other duties include processing data for program evaluation and preparing reporting materials.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, competitive appointment. Statewide travel, including to areas that may not be served by public transportation, will be required. Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration must be maintained for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 1.
