Duties Description
The Office of Design (comprised of 11 Regional Design Groups and the Main Office) manages and produces transportation project designs; develops and issues policies, standards and guidance necessary to produce project designs. The Office develops and implements design quality assurance processes and manages consultant contracts for Regions and other Department units. The Office also provides training and technical assistance to other Department units, other agencies and the public.
Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Collect and analyze capital program, resource, process, quality, workforce development, information technologies and organizational effectiveness data required to assess performance and make recommendations to Office of Design managers.
• Develop reports of analysis for distribution at the office level and respond to inquiries from other program areas and executive management.
• Use various department-wide technologies, computer databases, systems and other applications for the timely collection and analysis of data.
• Monitor and report on statewide trends to ensure that desired goals and targets are being achieved.
• Work with other staff to produce data-related information for presentations and reports. This includes evaluating existing and proposed plans and projects for their ability to meet transportation objectives and the impact on social, economic and ecological factors, and capital project plans and proposals.
• Assist with the processing of contract bid documents and related activities.
• Assists in developing, implementing and maintaining systems, procedures and manuals in support of capital project development and delivery.
• Promote and manage statewide best practices through proper use of GIS applications during the project development and design process.
• Assist with resource management functions
• Perform special assignments to address management needs.
Responsibilities also may include participating within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
