Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position, which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis. Candidates with electrical, carpentry, or plumbing experience are encouraged to apply.

Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is preferred, but not required, for these positions.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill two Trades Generalist positions. These are temporary/hourly positions in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in West Brentwood. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:

Perform general electrical maintenance work including the installation of circuits, lighting, and wiring.

Perform general plumbing maintenance work including the installation, alteration and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, ventilating, heating control, water, and drainage systems.

Perform general carpentry duties, including the installation and maintenance of walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors, windows, flooring, and insulation.

Perform general masonry work including the removal of rough or defective spots and patch holes with fresh concrete. Apply ceramic tiles to walls, floors, and ceilings.

Ability to cut, shape, and apply tiles to surfaces according to specifications. Apply coats of plaster and/or paint to walls and ceilings.

Provide support as needed for supervisors and co-workers on assignments.

Ability to carry out written or oral instructions.

Perform other project duties, as assigned.

Additional Comments These positions are part of the Pilgrim Special Projects Team, which travels between all locations managed by the Pilgrim PC administration completing work identified as critical and necessary. The regional revitalization team concept was first adopted for the New York City region in 1984-85, and soon expanded to five regions that cover the entire state. The Environmental Revitalization Teams are made up of temporary Trades Generalist, Maintenance Assistant, and Facility Operations Assistant 1 positions that perform ongoing maintenance and small renovation projects to augment facility support staff services. The teams operate on an ongoing basis, making visits at each OMH facility in the region twice each year.

Candidates are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
