Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trade worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is preferred, but not required, for this position.
Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Maintenance Assistant position. This is a temporary/hourly position in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the Western New York area. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects.
Perform semi-skilled carpentry duties, including the installation and maintenance of walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors, windows, flooring and insulation.
Conduct skilled surface preparation and application of primer and finish coats of paint in areas designated in the scope of work.
Perform housekeeping tasks and heavy cleaning, general grounds keeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and painting as needed.
Maintain grounds by mowing grass, sweeping, raking, shoveling, and removing by hand debris, branches, snow, ice, trash, etc.
Possess a working knowledge of maintenance and repair methods, materials and tools.
Perform manual tasks such as lifting and placing equipment and tools.
Additional Comments This position is part of the Western New York Revite team that travels between facilities within the Western New York region which includes Buffalo, Elmira, Rochester, West Seneca, and Binghamton. The regional revitalization team concept was first adopted for the New York City region in 1984-85, and soon expanded to five regions that cover the entire state. The Environmental Revitalization Teams are made up of temporary general mechanics, maintenance assistants and laborers that perform ongoing maintenance and small renovation projects to augment facility support staff services. The teams operate on an ongoing basis, making visits at each OMH facility in the region twice each year.
Candidates are not eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
