Minimum Qualifications NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent – permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 3 (G19) or Plant Utilities Engineer 4 (G21) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Candidate should be familiar with the specialized needs of a health-related and/or laboratory facility. Candidate should be familiar with: NYS Executive Order 88 (energy conservation), and general energy conservation methodology in a laboratory facility; and HVAC systems using single-pass, non-recirculated air for ventilation. The incumbent should be capable of productively participating in capital planning and improvement projects as they pertain to power-plant and laboratory systems construction and maintenance. Candidate should also be familiar with systems necessary to provide clean and/or deionized steam and deionized water for laboratory sterilization purposes. Experience overseeing preventive maintenance programs, using Autocad and/or Archibus software, emergency response efforts in case of plant system and/or utility provider failures, back-up power and generator systems, supervision and shift work.
Duties Description The Plant Utilities Engineer 4 will plan, direct and coordinate the activities and/or have overall supervisory responsibility for the physical plant at Wadsworth Center’s Griffin or Axelrod facilities engaged in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing and calibration of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in the most efficient and safest way possible.
Additional Comments Contingent permanent, full-time. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved in these position, the candidate who accepts the position may be required to wear personal protective equipment, undergo pre-employment and periodic health evaluations, and receive specific immunizations. Shift hours: days Mon - Fri, 8 hours a day.
