Minimum Qualifications Position requires 15+ years of law enforcement experience in a major police department or law enforcement agency, preferably in the area of fraud, including contract and white-collar crime, 10+ years of which included supervisory experience. Must have extensive knowledge in New York State criminal law and procedure. Must have extensive knowledge of design-build construction projects; and the construction industry. Must be highly proficient in the preparation of intelligence reports, utilizing law enforcement databases such as NYSTEP, Compass, EJustice, Accurint, Dun and Bradstreet, and NYSPIN. Must also be versed in computer and cell phone forensics.

Position further requires high-level experience interacting with other major law enforcement agencies and the ability to oversee multiple and highly sensitive, confidential investigations is necessary. Experience managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary investigative teams as well as conducting internal investigations is necessary. Candidate must possess extraordinary interpersonal, writing and interviewing skills, and must be willing to work unscheduled hours and travel when necessary. Bachelor’s degree required.


This is a Management Confidential position that is appointed by the Inspector General. New York State residency is required. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Duties Description The Deputy Chief Investigator works under the supervision of the Special Deputy Inspector General and both report directly to the Inspector General and the Executive Deputy Inspector General. The Deputy Chief Investigator is responsible for the daily oversight and management of the Suffern Investigative Unit. Supervising a team of investigators, the Deputy Chief Investigator assigns and monitors the progress of all cases in the Suffern office, conducts case reviews, manages a caseload, conducts interviews and prepares and reviews written reports for submission to executive staff; works closely with executive staff to monitor the progress of all cases assigned to the Suffern office; attends to special circumstances that arise, and coordinates the efforts of the Unit as it relates to the mission of OIG; serves as liaison to other law enforcement and governmental entities. The Deputy Chief Investigator is the primary custodian for all law enforcement technology and databases, while monitoring his/her own caseload. Also, the Deputy Chief Investigator functions in an investigator capacity, particularly on sensitive investigations. As such, duties include, but are not limited to: managing cases; overseeing surveillance; conducting interviews; and preparing written reports. This position is in the exempt class and the incumbent serves at the pleasure of the State Inspector General and operates on adherence to strict confidentiality.

Collectively, the three offices are known as the Offices of the Inspector General [“OIG”].
