Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description This position will support the Furbearer Management Program in Region 5. For much of the year, the technician will conduct field work supporting fisher research and furbearer surveys, enter, organize, and summarize data, issue trapping permits, and collect biological samples from furbearer carcasses provided by trappers. During the summer, the technician will assist the regional big game biologist with deer damage complaints and captive cervid facility inspections and conduct wetland delineations and other field work supporting wetland protection. Throughout the year, the technician will respond to public requests for hunting/trapping information, provide technical assistance and issue permits for nuisance wildlife issues, and provide technical assistance with regard to injured or distressed wildlife.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult, mountainous terrain and work and navigate in remote areas of the backcountry. Must be able to work in adverse weather, including harsh winter conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required.
Preferred Qualifications include: experience with live-trapping and handling mammalian carnivores, noninvasive survey techniques including camera traps and hair snares, telemetry techniques, GPS, and ArcGIS.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/20. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
