Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated. Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position.
Duties Description The employee will be required to supervise other Wildlife Management Staff and plan out work plans and jobs. Will be required to plan materials needed and purchase proper amounts for the specific job. Will be required to operate medium to heavy equipment. Will be required to operate chain saw, pole saw, lawn mower, weed trimmer and other equipment of similar types. Must have working knowledge of and the ability to use the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades in which assigned. May not be assigned the same job location each day, should expect to be assigned anywhere in the working circle during work days. Able to perform moderate to heavy labor, ability to read plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints, ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms. Ability to work outdoors in extreme conditions.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a temporary position funded through March 31, 2020 with a possibility of continuing after that date. Actual work schedule and hours may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
