Minimum Qualifications Transfer: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive status as a Senior Security Officer (G-11) or a Security Services Assistant (G-9). All candidates must have, and continuously maintain, their current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the NYS Department of State in order to accept and maintain employment. A copy of your Security Guard Photo ID must accompany your resume. Candidates must also possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.
*Promotional Provisional Candidates: Current NYS Department of Health employee with one year or more of competitive service as a Security Officer (G-8). If appointed to this provisional position you must pass and be immediately reachable from the eligible list resulting from the next holding of the Civil Service Senior Security Officer exam.
Duties Description The Senior Security Officer will provide direct 24 hour security coverage throughout the year at three facilities, and indirect support to two leased facilities; these facilities are geographically separated throughout Albany and Guilderland. These facilities contain combinations of sensitive materials and property (biological, chemical, radioactive and infectious agents, and animals), most of which fall under the oversight of Federal and State governmental agencies requiring adherence to specific security regulations. The Sr. Security Officer will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining security systems to control access to building and restricted areas; investigating security incidents; interviewing witnesses; coordinating activities with local police agencies and preparing written reports; assisting in fire drills and evacuations; the direct supervision of security officers; and preparing shift assignments and overtime schedules to maintain facility coverage.
Additional Comments Permanent or *provisional full-time appointment. This position involves shift work, nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts will be assigned by seniority within title according to Article 24.3 of the NYSCOPBA contract. Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved in this position and the candidate will be scheduled for yearly TB testing. Shift work hours (7am -3pm), (3pm-11pm), (11pm-7am) 40 hour work week. Mandatory overtime.
