Minimum Qualifications Current license and registration to practice medicine in New York State AND board-eligible or board-certified in a medical specialty, and one (1) year of experience in a clinical, hospital, or patient-care setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with electronic health records in a medical practice or research setting, familiarity with performance measurement, experience with quality improvement, and/or familiarity with medical home principals and programs. The board certification requirement listed above does include board certifications in Internal medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Geriatrics or any other specialty.

Duties Description The Public Health Physician 2 will work within the Department of Health, Office of Quality and Patient Safety and will assist the Chief Medical Officer with improving health care quality and safety in New York State by providing clinical leadership; participating in the development of Department of Health policies; representing the Department of Health at external meetings and on committees; leading or coordinating stakeholder workgroups and expert advisory groups; overseeing clinical programs; and, providing clinical guidance and feedback to Department of Health research staff. Supported by an internal analytics team, and expert clinical advisors from New York and across the nation, the selected candidate will provide expertise to patient quality and safety programs, including condition-specific programs and initiatives such as Sepsis, Stroke, Cardiac Services, Prenatal Care, Asthma, and Office Based Surgery; measuring, reporting, and improving clinical performance for hospitals, facilities, and providers; continuing implementation of the New York State Patient Centered Medical Home (NYS PCMH) model; and providing guidance to other Department Offices including the Office of Health Insurance Programs for Medicaid initiatives.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time. Non-competitive. Must maintain credentials after appointment. May have occasional travel which may include locations not served by public transportation.
