Minimum Qualifications Reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list OR current permanent status as a Nurse Administrator 1 Psy and qualified for lateral transfer OR eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law OR eligible for appointment via Sec 4.2b of Rules for the Classified Service.

Provisional Appointments-
Promotional Qualifications: Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had two years of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as Either 1. Nurse 2, (including all parenthetics), Community Mental Health Nurse, (including all parenthetics), Infection Control Nurse, or Senior Utilization Review Nurse; Or 2. One year in any Grade 16 or higher position that requires a license and current New York State registration as a Registered Nurse.

Open-Competitive Qualifications: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State AND either three years of professional nursing experience in a setting that treats individuals diagnosed with mental illness, alcoholism, or chemical dependency; OR a bachelor's degree** in nursing or health services, healthcare administration, hospital administration, public health, or public administration in the healthcare area field AND two years of professional nursing experience in a setting that treats individuals diagnosed with mental illness, alcoholism, or chemical dependency.

**A master's degree in nursing, health services, healthcare administration, hospital administration, public health, or public administration in the healthcare area may be substituted for one year of experience.

If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

**Failure to maintain licensure, registration and Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in the termination of employment.

Duties Description Provide Clinical expertise in addictions nursing for staff * Educate staff on relevant medical/nursing issues * Educate patients on various medical aspects relating to substance use. * Complete monthly reports: infection control, incident reports, environmental care, Drills * Supervise nursing staff and others as deemed necessary * Update and complete nursing policies and procedures * Evaluate nursing care * Write reports and analyze data * Assist in emergency and crisis situations * Monitor the environment for patient health, safety, and security; take action to maintain a positive and healthy milieu; * Involvement in facility performance assessment and improvement activities; * Function as backup shift charge in the absence of the shift charge; * Proficient use of a computer is required for record keeping and documentation; * Maintain and Order nursing/facility supplies and equipment; * Provide supportive counseling and crisis intervention as needed; * Direct other staff, trainees, volunteers in Nursing assignments; * Attend and participate in treatment plan review meetings and Administrative meetings; * Communicate effectively to promote cohesive relationship between shifts and disciplines; * Support Administrative decisions and policies and procedures for staff and patients; * Perform other nursing duties as assigned; completion of other tasks to meet ATC needs. * Other responsibilities as assigned by Director or Assistant Director

Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) that includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
