Minimum Qualifications Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:
• A minimum of (2) years of post-graduate legal experience and at least one (1) year of complex civil litigation experience,
including engaging in discovery and motion practice;
• Superb legal analysis, legal writing and editing, and oral advocacy skills;
• Outstanding organizational, interpersonal communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills; and
• Fluency in a second language is a plus, as is a background or interest in fair housing and/or lending matters.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York
State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year
commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.

Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General is seeking a dedicated attorney to serve in the Civil Rights Bureau in the New York City office.

The Bureau enforces federal, state, and local laws that protect New Yorkers from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, source of income, or disability. The Bureau investigates and civilly prosecutes alleged patterns of unlawful discrimination in a variety of arenas, including employment, housing, education, social services, voting, lending, and places of public accommodation. Some of the more recent matters handled by the Bureau targeted the following areas: access to education; equal employment opportunities and sexual harassment in the workplace; fair housing; fair lending and access to credit; immigrant rights; access by individuals with disabilities;
the rights of the LGBT community; language access; religious rights; reproductive rights; and voting rights. The Bureau's docket reflects its commitment to combating discrimination and its effects, ensuring equality of opportunity, and promoting inclusion across New York State. In addition to litigation, the Bureau engages in significant community outreach and public education and other advocacy efforts.
