Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have at least ten (10) years of litigation experience, experience in the area of securities and investment products demonstrating a depth of knowledge in financial markets, strong supervisory experience, excellent writing skills and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States.

Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced securities litigator to lead its premier Investor Protection Bureau located in New York City. The Investor Protection Bureau is responsible for the enforcement of New York’s blue sky laws, known as the Martin Act. In recent years, the office has investigated a wide range of conduct impacting the financial markets, including residential mortgage-backed securities, high frequency trading and dark pools, Ponzi schemes, and foreign currency exchange. The Bureau also recently resolved a series of high profile matters involving fraudulent electronic trading practices at Bank of America and Credit Suisse, and fraudulent sales practices at Wells Fargo, and published significant reports on mutual fund fees and conflicts of interest on cryptocurrency trading platforms.
The Bureau Chief will supervise attorneys and support staff in their civil investigations and affirmative lawsuits on behalf of the Office. The Bureau Chief will also advise and oversee both the Franchise and Registration Chiefs and their Units, and coordinate with outside government agencies including other Attorneys General, state securities regulators, federal regulators and NASAA.
