Duties Description The Department of Financial Services (DFS) is seeking a candidate for the position of Office Assistant 2 in the Consumer Assistance Unit. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Answers phones on designated days and responds to general questions from consumers, hospitals, health care providers and others on the external appeals process and/or aids in filling out the application via calls on the dedicated external appeal toll free line;
• Transfers calls from the external appeal applicants to the assigned examiner;
• Mails, faxes or emails external appeal applications to consumers when a request is made via phone call;
• Retrieves messages on designated days from the external appeals voice mailbox;
• Refers problematic callers or matters of a sensitive nature to a supervisor;
• Retrieves and opens mail on designated days;
• Reviews the correspondence and separates into categories;
• Batches the four categories of correspondence under the appropriate barcode sheet;
• Attaches responses that were faxed, emailed or scanned into EA NYCIS to existing external appeals;
• Sorts faxed appeals into the preferred page order and uploads to EA NYCIS;
• Enters appeals on heavy mail days; and
• Other duties as assigned.
