Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Senior Computer Operator or Data Processing Clerk 3 who are eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.
Duties Description Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4 (Operations), SG-25, within the Chief Operations Office, Data Center Operations, the position will monitor mission-critical customer systems and operate print equipment to provide 24x7 service to customer agencies. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Submit and monitor nightly system and application backups.
• Submit various file and job requests.
• Maintain and complete all records, logs and reports as required.
• Place service call requests when required.
• Create and monitor batch job scheduling/calendar packages for open systems and mainframe.
• Assist with monitoring Data Center environmental equipment and respond to alarms generated by environmental equipment such as AC Units, Power distribution units, UPS, Backup Generator, Fire suppression system and Security systems.
• Perform basic console monitoring and related tasks as assigned.
• Notify appropriate parties regarding application or system problems, according to procedure.
• Operate peripheral equipment including large scale printers and/or personal computers.
• Load and mount paper onto equipment.
• Monitor job progress on print console.
• Check for equipment errors and take corrective action in response to minor error messages.
• Check operation of printers to ensure proper alignment and sequence of forms.
• Remove jammed forms.
• Review completed jobs to ensure compliance with user agency specifications, including but not limited to: formatting, font, and color.
• Maintain job status logs.
• Separate and distribute reports.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning duties including cleaning printer and the work area.
• Perform duties that require one to bend, stoop, lift heavy (up to 50 lbs.) objects, push up to 1000 rolling pounds, and operate a pallet jack during the course of a normal business day.
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities, as required.
Depending on location, assignment may include a restriction on playing Lottery games.
Due to the secure nature of the work at the Data Center sites, candidates will be required to undergo a special background check.
Some travel to the other Data Center Sites may be needed for site coverage and for escort duty of non-authorized visitors.
Additional Comments We will be filling multiple positions at the Swan Street Data Center on any of the following shifts:
DAY: 1st Shift, Mon-Fri 7am - 3:15pm
EVENING: 2nd Shift, Mon-Fri 3pm - 11:15pm
NIGHT: 3rd Shift Mon-Fri 11pm - 7:15am
NIGHT and WEEKEND: 3rd Shift Sun-Thurs 11pm - 7:15am
WEEKEND DAY: 4th Shift Fri-Sun 7am - 8pm
WEEKEND NIGHT: 5th Shift Fri-Sun 7pm - 8am
Assignment will include a restriction on playing Lottery games.
Due to the secure nature of the work at the Data Center, candidates will be required to undergo a special background check.
Some positions may require fingerprinting.
Selected candidates who are new or returning to NYS service may be required to pay for fingerprinting fees.
Some travel to the other Data Center Sites may be needed for site coverage and for escort duty of non-authorized visitors.
