FOR INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST TRAINEE 1:

Employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Trainee 1 in certain titles filled by the PCO exam may qualify for a 70.1 transfer to the Industrial Hygienist Trainee 1 level if they ALSO meet the following minimum qualifications:

1. A bachelor's or higher degree in audiology, bacteriology, biochemistry, biology, biophysics, biostatistics, chemical engineering, chemistry, community health, environmental biology, environmental engineering, environmental health, environmental planning, environmental toxicology, epidemiology, genetics, geochemistry, health physics, human development, hydrology, industrial hygiene, medical science, medical technology, molecular biology, nursing, occupational health, petroleum engineering, physics, public health, or toxicology; including or supplemented by 8 semester credit hours in chemistry.

FOR INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST TRAINEE 2:

Employees with one year of permanent competitive service as a Trainee 2 in certain titles filled by the PCO exam may also qualify if they ALSO posses beyond the minimum qualifications:

1. One year of professional industrial hygiene experience.

FOR SENIOR INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST:

Employees with one year of permanent competitive service in certain Grade 18 positions may qualify for a 70.1 transfer to the Senior Industrial Hygienist if they ALSO possess, beyond the minimum qualifications:

1. Two years of professional industrial hygiene experience.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: You may be required to have your physical and medical conditions evaluated annually to ensure that you are able to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:

As an Industrial Hygienist Trainee 1 or 2, you would participate in an Industrial Hygienist training program and gain experience in the duties performed by Senior Industrial Hygienists. Upon successfully completing one year as a Trainee 1, you would be advanced to Trainee 2. Upon successfully completing one year as a Trainee 2, you would be advanced to Senior Industrial Hygienist without further testing. You will be expected to use a computer in the performance of these duties.

As a Senior Industrial Hygienist, you would inspect work sites to determine compliance with state and federal standards and guidelines and to identify health violations and health hazards, particularly those associated with exposure to toxic or explosive chemicals and substances in the form of dusts, fibers (including asbestos), fumes, mists, vapors, gases, metals, and pathogenic organisms. You would also identify hazards such as noise and vibrations, light of various types, and other physical energies including electromagnetic emissions. Based upon the results of field testing and/or laboratory analyses taken from on-site inspections, you might confer with management and employee representatives and/or take appropriate enforcement or consultation action. You might conduct training for appropriate staff or public and private sector employers and employees. You will be expected to use a computer in the performance of these duties.
