Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Preferred Qualifications:
Appointees will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. Be willing to work overtime and holidays, sometimes with little or no advance notice. A Type 1 and Type 2 or Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certificate is desirable. Experience with Andover Controls and/or Siemens Controls systems experience is desirable, as is experience in building mechanical systems and HVAC equipment and/or ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical systems including: compressors, air handlers, pumps, motors and other similar and related equipment.

Duties Description Position Summary:
A General Mechanic performs journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Typically, a General Mechanic functions as a skilled worker in a primary trade, and also performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled activities in one or a combination of other related trades in response to maintenance program requirements. The services performed by General Mechanics vary from position to position so that the listing of specific activities and tasks is impracticable. However, General Mechanics have one responsibility in common, that of performing a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. A General Mechanic uses the hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the craft or crafts to which assigned.
