Juris Doctor or Juris Doctor candidate, currently attending an ABA-accredited law school and successful completion of Juris Doctor within 12 months of hire.

Duties Description Primary Purpose
The Law Clerk executes legal assignments with respect to various aspects of DASNY’s Office of Counsel.
Essential Functions
• Under the supervision of an attorney, execute legal assignments with respect to all matters relating to the administration of design, construction, financing, operations, and other contracts entered into by DASNY, the handling and disposition of liens filed with DASNY, and the administration of the DASNY's construction and financing programs.
• Assist with coordination of outside counsel, including the Attorney General's Office, in connection with administrative proceedings and litigation in which DASNY is involved.
• Assist and conduct research with respect to the formulation, coordination and execution of DASNY’s legislative program.
• Assist and conduct research with respect to general corporate matters such as FOIL requests and insurance matters.
• Prepare drafts of legal documents, briefings, and correspondence as assigned.
• Collects, records, organizes, documents, and analyzes data relative to the research of legal issues.
• Perform in-depth research and analysis of federal and state statutes and case law which pertain to assigned areas/matters.
• Track and analyze relevant federal and state laws and apprise division management of changes which may impact DASNY.
• Keep Managing General Counsel and General Counsel apprised of any significant legal and policy issues that may arise in connection with the various matters to which the Law Clerk is assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist management in the development of policies.
• Assist in development, documentation and implementation of procedures.
• Assist with assessment, development and implementation of internal controls.
• May train and evaluate employees.
• Undertake special assignments as directed.
• Must maintain regular attendance in accordance with DASNY attendance and leave policies.
• Must adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established and issued by the Office of Information Technology Services. (Standards can be found on the Intranet).
Additional Comments Supervision
Supervision of staff may be required.
Physical/Mental/Visual Demands
Travel may be required using public transportation, DASNY vehicle, rental vehicle or personal vehicle. This travel may include overnight stays at public accommodations and related establishments. Requires complex and time-pressured decision-making. Must be able to work overtime or extended work hours as needed.
