Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.

Duties Description This position will help to assist in coordinating the statewide game management programs in New York. Under the supervision of a Central office biologist, the incumbent will work with regional biologists and technicians to implement programs throughout the state including coordinating the furbearer pelt sealing program and compiling game bird and game mammal research and survey data. The incumbent is responsible for data entry and maintenance of centralized harvest and survey databases. Duties also include working with regional staff in data collection, drafting and/or assisting staff with preparation of reports, and assisting in field work for species management and monitoring.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access, and ESRI’s ArcMap is highly desired. Must be able to safely operate state vehicles, including 4 wheel drive SUVs and pickup trucks by him/herself. Must be able to walk long distances over rough terrain and orient himself/herself in unfamiliar territory. Overnight travel will occasionally be required.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/20. Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be extended to 3/31/2021. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
