Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience as a carpenter under a skilled journey-level carpenter which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.

Duties Description Selected candidate will perform journey-level work in carpentry, and skilled/semi-skilled work in a variety of other trades such as painting and plumbing.

1. Plan, design and perform all required carpentry work including but not limited to: repair of historic buildings and structures (Manor House, Carriage House, Cow Barn, Garage) as well as storage buildings and maintenance shop.

2. Roofing, window repair, door, and floor installation and repair;

3. Operate woodworking equipment and tools such as shapers, planners, table saws and lathes;

4. Maintain machinery, equipment and carpentry tools; making sure work areas and equipment are clean, safe and properly serviced;

5. Make recommendations to supervisor on need for specific materials needed in the performance of tasks; as authorized by supervisor will be responsible for ordering and maintenance of adequate levels of supplies to accomplish tasks;

6. Conduct inspections of facilities to determine maintenance needs and make recommendations of priorities for repairs based on nature of problem;

7. Prepare surfaces for painting using a variety of tools and materials including sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool; and, if required, removes paints using paint remover, heat gun, wire brush or scraper

8. Performs epoxy resin restoration of surfaces; operate painting machinery; erect scaffolding, swing stages or ladders, as required;

9. Repair and maintenance of paths and roadways (trails, roads and parking lots);

10. Supervise, instruct, direct and coordinate journey-level, park workers, and semi-skilled personnel assigned to assist in completing projects and repairs;

11. Operate light trucks, passenger vehicles, forklift and other equipment as required;

12. Perform plumbing work, such as repairs to irrigation system and comfort stations;

13. Inspect work area and facility for safety hazards and carries out corrective actions to reduce or eliminate risk to employee safety;

14. Load, move, carry or unload materials of varying weights and sizes as required in the performance of duties assigned;

15. Performs other related duties as required (ie. landscaping, building and grounds maintenance).

Skilled or semi-skilled experience as a Carpenter, Painter, and Plumber
By the date of appointment, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Class D Driver License as a term and condition of employment
Ability and skill in the use of various carpentry tools
Ability to do math such as add, subtract, multiply and divide
Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and/or materials of different weights and sizes
Ability to work from scaffolds and ladders and on roofs
Work Schedule/Work Shift: Will discuss at Interview. Expected to work variable shifts, including weekends, holidays and special events.
