Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*.
*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.
May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.
Duties Description Ability to perform a variety of semiskilled maintenance, repair and related activities in a residential setting; determine repairs and replacement of equipment as needed; knowledge and ability to utilize hand tools, small and large power tools, testing instruments, ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, and cutting tools; basic mathematical skills; ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting; ability to enter and retrieve information in the campus computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); ability to work from aerial lifts, ladders, and scaffolding at heights exceeding 10 feet; ability and experience repairing sinks, toilets, showers and drains; removing, installing and setting up appliances; adjusting doors and closers; ability to replace electrical receptacles, switches, ballasts, sockets and bulbs; working knowledge of applicable standards in plumbing and electrical regulations, replacing damaged ceiling / floor tiles, cove base, wall and floor mounted door stops; ability to repair masonry / tiles and drywall; ability to work overtime if needed for snow removal, be on an emergency call in list for after hour emergencies, and select scheduled campus events; willingness to be trained/certified in areas of confined space, abatements and other safety training required; willingness to be certified in ACM materials handling including lead; ability and willingness to attend trainings and train others; candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators; Valid NYS Driver’s License Required.
