Minimum Qualifications Must be a current New York State employee reachable on the Secretary 1 eligible list;
OR
Must have one year of permanent competitive service as an Administrative Assistant 1 or Secretary 1 and be eligible for lateral transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law;
OR
Must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title SG-9 or above, deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law AND successful completion of all required mandatory coursework. *

Administrative Assistant Trainee 1 (NS=SG-8):

Must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title SG-6 or above, deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. *

Administrative Assistant Trainee 2 (NS=SG-10):

Must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title SG-8 or above, deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. *

*Incumbents will be required to complete four mandatory courses the first year of traineeship and four elective courses in the second year of the traineeship in four competency areas through the CSEA Partnership, or equivalent offerings through another entity as determined by the agency. All trainees are required to successfully complete all courses before advancing to the Administrative Assistant 1, SG-11.

Candidates that are not currently incumbering or have not previously held a Keyboard or secretarial title must provide proof of having passed a typing proficiency exam to qualify for transfer.

Duties Description Under the general direction of the Director of Communications, the incumbent will perform duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Answer a high volume of calls from the media and public on Commission matters.
• Monitor, maintain, and compile daily news clips for distribution.
• Post news releases on NY Lottery website.
• Monitor and respond to email inquiries to the Commission; route inquiries to appropriate Commission staff for review and response.
• Assist in proofreading Lottery winning interviews, draft press releases and other office materials.
• Conduct interviews with NY Lottery winners for news releases.
• Manage travel and arrange expense reports for staff.
• Order supplies and establish office procedures.

Additional Comments Appointment will be contingent upon completion of a fingerprint background check before an official appointment offer can be made.
