Salary RangeFrom $81446 to $102661 Annually
Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive service as a Senior Attorney; or one year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law with current New York State Bar Admission.
Duties Description The senior attorney will serve as assigned counsel to one or more program areas within the Department of State, including consumer protection, building standards and codes, licensing, corporations, human resources, and contracts.
Depending on the program area to which the senior attorney is assigned, the duties may include:
• providing legal advice to program staff in specific subject matter areas;
• prosecution of administration enforcement actions,
• including preparation of case files, drafting pleadings, settlement negotiations, and hearings;
• research and preparation of memoranda on legal matters;
• legal review, preparation and modification of contracts;
• review and comment on applications submitted for review
• drafting legislation and commenting on legislative proposals;
• drafting regulations pursuant to the State Administrative Procedure Act;
• legal review of responses to Freedom of Information law requests.
The senior attorney will also be expected to handle special projects when assigned by the General Counsel.
