Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must be reachable for appointment from the current Civil Service eligible list for the title;

OR

Transfer Opportunity:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Teacher 2, 3, or 4 and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. To qualify for Section 70.1 transfer, candidates must have at least one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service in a title approved by Civil Service within two salary grades of their qualifying level AND possess the appropriate certification necessary for appointment.

For Teacher 2:
Current New York State Education Department provisional/initial certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.

For Teacher 3:
Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty.

For Teacher 4:
Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty and two years of post-certification (provisional/initial or permanent/professional) teaching experience in that same specialty.

Requirements for Continued Employment:
Possession of a permanent/professional or provisional/initial New York State certificate in the appropriate specialty is necessary for continued employment. Loss of certification will result in termination of employment.

Duties Description Teachers 2, 3, and 4, under general supervision and with considerable independence of judgment and action, teach elementary, secondary, or special subjects. The duties include preparing course and unit outlines, lesson plans, educational progress reports, individual education plans, and acting as advisor to student groups and organizations. Teachers at each level perform specialized tasks with emphasis on the identification and detection of skills. This involves development of a plan of objectives for remedial education and evaluation of the growth and development of the student’s competency in the stated skills objectives.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be:

1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.

2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information and may be required to pay any necessary fees.

3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

Candidates should have NYS teaching certification in Students with Disabilities/Special Education/Professional Permanent Certificate in Students with Disabilities for Grades 5-12 (Math).
