Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age and physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the position. There are no education or experience requirements.

USCG Drug Testing required prior to appointment.

Candidates must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS at the time of appointment and continuously maintain it thereafter or face termination.

Duties Description The Canal Corporation (Canals) works in partnership with local, state, and federal entities to implement canal projects that meet the goals and objectives of the NYS Canal Recreationway Plan and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Plan. The projects are geared towards increasing public access and use of the Canal System, adding new and improved trail linkages and enhancing tourism and economic revitalization opportunities along the 524 miles comprising the Canal system. The New York State Canal System, includes the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals, linking the Hudson River with the Great Lakes, the Finger Lakes and Lake Champlain.

A Marine Helper performs manual labor to assist in maintaining and operating vessels and equipment, including making repairs to Canal channels and embankments and other shore-based activities.
