Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Assurance, Cyber Security or Computer Science along with at least eight years of work experience in a related law enforcement or legal field. Candidate should be familiar with New York State government. Prior supervisory experience is a plus. Candidate should also be well-versed in surveillance techniques as well as the use, installation and maintenance of technical equipment used in law enforcement for electronic video surveillance.

Candidate must also hold two or more of the following industry-recognized digital forensic certifications.

This is a Management Confidential position that is appointed by the Inspector General. New York State residency is required. The salary range for this position is $89,574-$113,225 (M2 equivalent)

Duties Description The Office of the New York State Inspector General [“NYSIG:], as established by Executive Law Article 4-A, is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that New York State government, its employees, and those who work with the State meet the highest standards of honesty, accountability, and efficiency. The Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General [“OWIG”], as established by section 74 of the Executive Law, is responsible for maintaining the integrity of New York State’s public assistance programs. The Office of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General [“WCFIG”], as established by section 136 of the Workers’ Compensation Law, is responsible for investigating violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers’ compensation system.

Collectively, the three offices are known as the Offices of the Inspector General [“OIG”].

Job Description

OIG seeks a Director of Digital Forensics for its Upstate Regional Office, based in Albany. This is a management-level position that necessitates a strict adherence to confidentiality. The Director of Digital Forensics works under the supervision and direction of the Inspector General and the Chief of Investigations, to provide and coordinate investigative support statewide to all investigations and information systems and infrastructures. The Director of Digital Forensics is expected lead complex cases involving a range technological challenges, produce clear and detailed reports for non-technical audiences, and provide expert testimony in legal proceedings. Principle duties include: acquiring, examining, extracting and analyzing data from computers, seized digital media, and other electronic storage devices, using advanced forensic tools and methods; conducting social media investigations; preparing written investigative reports; and interviewing witnesses, complainants and subjects of investigations. The Director of Digital Forensics drafts and adapts digital forensic lab policy and procedure in accordance with changing technology and legally accepted practices.

While this position is based in Albany, frequent statewide travel is required.
