Minimum Qualifications Applicants must possess three (3) or more years of legal experience. This experience must include civil litigation, including discovery and motion practice, and relevant civil rights advocacy or litigation experience. Applicants must possess excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills. Fluency in a second language is a plus.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.

Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General is seeking a dedicated attorney to serve as Special Counsel on Hate Crimes. The attorney will be responsible for enforcing civil laws that protect New Yorkers from crimes perpetrated against victims because of their race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, religious practice, age, disability, or sexual orientation. The attorney will also be responsible for developing effective ways to combat hate crimes and hate groups through public education, outreach, and policy work.
