Duties Description The Senior Accountant, under the general direction of Commission for the Blind (NYSCB) management, may be assigned various reconciliation duties. These duties may include:
• Supervising the financial activities of legally blind small business owners in the operation of their small businesses.
• Preparing financial statements for the Business Enterprise Program as required by law (monthly, quarterly and annually) in compliance with generally accepted accounting practices. This includes preparing work papers, schedules and responses that will be used by the Bureau, NYSCB staff, other agencies and external auditors as support.
• Analyzing financial reports to identify potential problems; monitoring fiscal stability of each business and employing corrective action where problems are identified
• Conducting on-site visits and audits to these businesses to identify problems and advise of possible solutions
• Reviewing and evaluating the business practices of legally blind small business managers to determine areas of inadequacies and work with the program staff to develop and implement improvements
• Preparing annual written evaluations of legally blind small business managers’ financial performance
• Auditing and tracking contracts and payments
• Record-keeping and required fiscal reporting for federally-funded or agency programs by interpreting guidelines, instructions, monitoring schedules and reports and providing advice and assistance
• Participating in developing and conducting training for program staff on fiscal system changes
• Working on miscellaneous fiscal, budget, and administrative projects

Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
