Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT:
Candidates must currently be serving in the title of Developmental Assistant 3 with permanent or contingent permanent status at OPWDD; OR be reachable for appointment from the Civil Service List; OR currently be serving in a position in which you are eligible to transfer to this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT:
In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities and have had at least three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as: a Developmental Assistant 1, Developmental Assistant 2, Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 2, or Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 2.
Note: If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained. Service as a provisional appointee is at the discretion of the appointing authority.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s License. Computer skills are required to complete assignments.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Developmental Assistant 3 duties will include but are not limited to:
• Supervise direct care staff, as assigned
• Conducting rounds to ensure a safe and secure environment, continuous active engagement
• Assist in various activities including standardization of Fire Safety Practices, Overtime Control, implementing Plans of Corrective Action
• Work within established guidelines and procedures in handling non-routine and crisis situations relating to subordinate staff and/or the individuals in the incumbent's care
• Staff training
• Assist Treatment Team Leader with assigned tasks on an ongoing basis
