Minimum Qualifications Candidates possessing experience in consumer protection and/or affirmative litigation in federal and state court are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in consumer issues in the areas of predatory lending, financial services, student lending, telecommunications, and/or health claims is a plus. Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) years of civil litigation experience. Excellent writing, analytical and organizational skills are required. Fluency in other languages (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, etc.) in addition to English is a plus, but not required.
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
Duties Description The New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a dedicated and motivated attorney for its Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection in New York City. The Bureau conducts investigations and litigates in a variety of areas involving consumer protection. The Bureau enforces consumer protection laws and pursues civil prosecutions against businesses and individuals engaged in fraudulent, misleading, deceptive, or illegal trade practices. Cases typically seek injunctive relief, restitution for consumers, costs and penalties.
