Minimum Qualifications Transfer: Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Educator, G22; OR current New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title G20 or above and eligible for transfer to Public Health Educator under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the below provisional qualifications.
Provisional: Bachelor's degree in public health, education, communication, health promotion, health science, health education and/or health communications; AND three years of experience developing and implementing a public health or health education program that includes an outreach component. A master’s degree in public health, education, communication, health promotion, health science, health education and/or health communications may substitute for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Background in science; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical information for lay audiences; skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe graphics and statistical software
Duties Description The Public Health Educator will work as part of a team of public health professionals in the Center for Community Health (CCH) Education and Outreach Unit. The incumbent will review, craft, adapt, and create public health education and tailored for specific populations and ensure consistent, current, scientifically accurate. They will work with the Department and various stakeholders to provide public health education and outreach
Additional Comments Full-time, permanent transfer or provisional pending examination. Provisional appointee will be required to take the next Civil Service PHE examination, and be immediately appointable on the resulting eligible list, to maintain employment. Occasional travel, including to areas that may not be served by public transportation, may be required (20%).
