Minimum Qualifications Preferred minimum qualifications:
Either four years of experience in environmental education programming OR a bachelor’s degree or higher with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education OR a combination of education and experience.
Duties Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of a higher level Preserve Manager and the Natural Resource Specialist, the selected candidate conducts environmental education programs by leading interpretive walks, preparing and teaching lessons, presenting slide and film programs, and conducting programs off-site; plans and leads guided outdoor recreational programs and stewardship events; plans, prepares, and builds displays, exhibits, and other teaching aids; assists in researching, writing, and producing educational and promotional materials; assists with community outreach to schools, organizations, and community members; arranges for programs by suggesting program content, scheduling programs and staff, registering participants, and preparing and ensuring the availability of materials and teaching aids; identifies and evaluates habitat conditions by collecting, inventorying, cataloging, and maintaining specimens, taking readings and measurements, and compiling data and other information; cleans, repairs, and maintains facilities, equipment, and exhibits; and assists supervisor in administering programs and facilities by preparing reports, training and supervising employees and volunteers, and performing other support activities; performs other duties as required. The incumbent will work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
? Candidates must possess effective communication skills and have the ability to understand written and/or verbal material and instructions.
? Must be able to lift 30 pounds- loading, unloading, and moving items of varying weights and sizes.
? Daytime, weekend, holiday, and evening work is required.
? Candidates must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
? Candidate is expected to have proficiency in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
