Minimum Qualifications Six years of experience as a radio system engineer involving the development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of wireless land mobile radio or other wireless communication systems.

An associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Applied Engineering, Physics, or a related field may substitute for two years of general experience; a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Applied Engineering, Physics, or a related field can substitute for four years of general experience; or a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Applied Engineering, Physics, or a related field can substitute for five years of general experience.

Duties Description • Responsible for engineering, technical support, and analysis for the Office of Interoperable and Emergency Communications (OIEC).
• Collaborate with peers and other staff from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) offices, other State agencies, and outside entities (local governments, federal agencies, consultants) in relation to planning, implementing or operating public safety communications systems.
• Provide emergency/disaster response communications as requested by the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) or the Executive staff.
• Technical support, operation, and maintenance of communications assets deployed during exercises and disaster response incidents.
• Ability to analyze radio, microwave, and satellite communications systems functionality and performance.
• Ability to resolve and repair hardware and software problems and direct routine maintenance to ensure optimal network operations and service.
• Able to develop and understand technical standards for the operation and maintenance of the emergency communications systems and assets.
• Capable of monitoring the use and operations of public safety radio frequencies.
• Have thorough knowledge of the state-of-the-art land mobile radio, emergency services dispatching systems, voice, and data telecommunications.
• Have experience with IP networking in relation to systems and radio communications.
• Have thorough knowledge of emerging technologies with applications intended for the field of public safety.
• Experience with operating deployable assets, communications equipment, and land mobile radio/satellite, and telecommunications systems.
• Assist in developing and analyzing intergovernmental tactical interoperable communications plans.
• Be familiar with regional and interagency governance activities and policy analysis in relation to the Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP).
• Travel may be required.
• Other duties as assigned.

NOTE: Support of operations during times of emergency and disaster from State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), state field offices and/or local deployments may be required, which would result in a change and/or increase in working hours, locations and/or duties.
