Minimum Qualifications 1. Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter;
OR
2. Graduation for high school (or possession of a high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized education authority or a USAFI GED diploma high school level) AND one year of the experience described in option 1 above;
OR
3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction; technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems or computer circuitry;
OR
4. Eighteen college semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering; such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science, environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences.

Duties Description Under general supervision, the EET1 will collect field data using handheld Geographic Information System (GIS) equipment. The position will focus on working independently to collect facility infrastructure data at NYSDEC run campgrounds in both the Adirondack and Catskill Parks. The candidate will be required to report to Albany NY one day a week and travel to department facilities the remaining four days a week. The candidate should have good time management skills, attention to detail and ability to work with mobile technology. Previous GIS, GPS or survey experience is preferred but not required. May be required to troubleshoot GIS/GPS equipment in the field. A basic understanding of power, water and wastewater systems components and function is a plus. Spatial awareness when in the field and ability to read a map is advantageous.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and/or work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel is required.

This is a part-time, seasonal position through 11/30/2021. Program needs and/or funding will determine the actual termination date of the position which may be prior to the date indicated here. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
