Minimum Qualifications Interested candidates must currently be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 3,
SG-23 list, OR be eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
52.6 Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent, competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 21 or higher.
Duties Description · Install and configure UNIX operating systems including but not limited to AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux.
· Maintain situational awareness of availability and utilization of UNIX operating systems and servers running on the ppc and x86 platforms.
· Perform activities that promote reliability, performance, scalability, and security of UNIX servers.
· Install, configure and support 3rd party server infrastructure software according to UNIX server services requirements.
· Work with other technicians and customers to implement projects, update systems and proactively address problems.
· Assist with server environment design.
· Provide on-call support as needed.
· Create and/or review reports each day for server status.
· Troubleshoot and resolve outstanding issues.
· Supervise subordinate technical staff.
· Create subordinate’s assignments, set work priorities, and help prepare realistic time estimates.
· Review subordinate’s completed tasks assuring they meet expected standards.
· Develop employee performance evaluation assessment and training plan. Provide performance feedback at frequent intervals. Schedule training activities as appropriate.
· Participate in the development of, and support the adherence to, all quality assurance goals and standards.
· Assist staff in addressing technical and functional issues.
· Proactively review systems and effectively manage new tasks.
· Support professional development of team members.
· Participate in the development of, and support the adherence to, all UNIX technical and supervisory procedures.
· Manage many forms of documentation located in multiple types of repositories.
Additional Comments Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Demonstrated experience with Operating Systems (1 year to less than 2 years).
· Demonstrated experience with Operating Systems, Shell Scripting.
· Demonstrated ability for troubleshooting.
· Ability to multitask and work independently.
· Ability to work effectively under high demand situations.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
