Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree and eleven years* of professional level experience, six of which must have included managerial, decision-making and/or oversight responsibilities for a major public health-related program or in the direction of a major administrative function of a large health-related organization.

*Substitution - MD or PhD may substitute for two years of the general experience; JD or Master's degree may substitute for one year of the general experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Track record of strong analytical and organizational skills; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and confidential environment under tight deadlines is essential; experience in a managerial role, interacting with state and federal government officials is preferred.


Duties Description Functioning as Deputy Commissioner of Public Health, provides leadership, policy direction and oversight for the Center for Community Health, Center for Environmental Health, Wadsworth Center for Laboratories and Research, AIDS Institute, Office of Public Health Practice and Office of Public Health Emergency Preparedness, including management of approxiately 2000 staff. Major functions of these Centers include providing direct health services and evaluation of local government health delivery activities; identifying health issues and problems which pose a high risk to New York State citizens and developing programs to ameliorate those risks including exposure to toxic materials and communicable disease; conducting pure and applied health research and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Additional Comments Exempt, full-time. Evening and weekend hours may be required. Occasional travel, including to areas that may not be served by public transportation is required (20%).
