Minimum Qualifications G14 - A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science or a related field andone year of post-degree professional research experience in that field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

G18 - Bachelor's degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science or a related field and two years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a Master’s degree in one of the above fields and one year of such experience in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications: Work experience or coursework in statistics, health services, or research design.
Experience performing research and analyses with large administrative and/or clinical data
sets. Experience presenting research findings. Proficiency in SAS and/or SQL
programming, Tableau, and Microsoft Office software applications including Excel,
PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word. Excellent organizational, communication and
interpersonal skills.

Duties Description The Assistant Research Scientist (ARS) or Research Scientist 1 (RS1) with an
Epidemiology specialty will work within the Bureau of Women, Infant, and Adolescent
Health (BWIAH), and will perform a broad range of research, analysis, reporting, and
evaluation activities. The ARS or RS 1 (Epidemiology) will work under the direction of a
senior level research scientist to conduct research to assess the effectiveness of the
Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home (MIECHV) Program, an evidence-based
home visiting program model, as required under the guidelines of a federal Health
Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant. The ARS or RS 1 (Epidemiology)
will generate and submit quarterly and annual reports to HRSA. This individual will
conduct all phases of research including literature review, methods development,
statistical analysis, data analytics related to data robustness and quality, continuous
quality improvement, and the development of written reports and presentation of
findings. The ARS or RS 1 (Epidemiology) will plan and coordinate data collection
activities with local MIECHV projects; help conduct analyses to measure and track
progress toward improvements in selected indicators; help develop and produce
benchmark reports to monitor, assess and communicate progress toward improvement
of the entire MIECHV initiative; help implement a Continuous Quality Improvement plan;
and help provide technical assistance to MIECHV projects as needed.

Additional Comments Occasional travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public
transportation, is required.
