Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with students and staff, follow written and spoken instructions, and relate to the students being supervised. Incumbents must be in good health, good physical condition, and able to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children and participate in physical activities, such as swimming.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• An associate degree or higher in the Human Services field;
• Experience as a Nurse’s Aide;
• Skilled in sign language;
• Possession of, or willing to secure, an Article 19A School Bus Driver certification;
• Experience in behavior modification, orientation, and mobility;
• Certification in water safety, CPR, first aid, advanced first aid, or EMT; or
• Demonstrated skills working with students who are multiply disabled.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for two Child Care Aide 1 (Substitute) positions in the New York State School for the Blind for the 2021 summer school session. The incumbents of these positions will be responsible for maintaining the safety and well-being of students, escorting students to and from activities, attending to students’ personal hygiene needs, assisting in the development of appropriate daily living skills, and providing supervision and assistance as necessary.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These will be temporary, on-call, hourly positions. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Substitutes are notified by phone when services are needed. Every effort is made to give 24-hour prior notice. Hours will vary depending on shift and dormitory assignment. Second shift hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:00pm to 11:00pm, Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 11:00pm, and Sunday from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. Third shift hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11:00pm to 7:00am.
