Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as an Administrative Assistant 1 (formerly Secretary 1); OR current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a position allocated to a Grade 6 and above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Administrative Assistant Trainee 1.*
*Note: Appointment may be made at either the trainee 1 or trainee 2. A new two-year traineeship, (Administrative Assistant Trainee 1, NS=Grade 8 starting salary $34,831 & Administrative Assistant Trainee 2, NS=Grade 10 starting salary $38, 875) leading to Administrative Assistant 1, Grade 11, has been approved effective October 31, 2019. Trainees will be required to take four mandatory courses the first year of the traineeship and four elective courses in the second year of the traineeship in four competency areas through the CSEA Partnership, or equivalent offerings through another entity as determined by the agency. Trainees having completed the mandatory coursework prior to appointment may be eligible for appointment to the Trainee 2 level with appropriate approvals. All trainees are required to successfully complete all courses before advancing to the Administrative Assistant 1, G-11.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate would have experience working with Laboratory Information Management System data and processes; reviewing and analyzing administrative/clerical processes; developing procedure for improvements/efficiencies; developing and preparing written summaries and proposals; supervisory skills and managing office administration a plus.

Duties Description The Administrative Assistant 1 in Wadsworth Center's Infectious Diseases Reporting Unit will supervise staff performing data entry and office support activities by establishing work procedures, and keeping track of the daily work production and priorities. Duties will include training staff; ensuring information entered in the system is accurate and timely through routine oversight and assessment activities; administer performance evaluation and competency assessment forms for staff. The incumbent will work with laboratory staff to review and compare various processes to assist in creating streamlined processes, standardizing where possible.
