Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D. and three years experience with accounting systems. An Associate’s Degree may be substituted for two years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be considered, at the discretion of the Corporation.
Knowledge/skill/experience in the following areas is desired:
• Basic accounting and general ledger practices
• Basic office procedures
• Reconciling of accounts
• Compiling and organizing data and information
• Performing multiple tasks
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the ability to work with a database
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and a willingness to perform work independent of others
Working Conditions and Physical Abilities
Work is primarily of an administrative nature and is performed in an office setting with the requirement for fine manipulation skills for computer use.
Duties Description The Accounting Specialist is responsible for gathering, compiling and updating financial data and records to support accounting activities.
Essential Duties
• Analyzes cash transactions and assigns them to general ledger accounts and funds.
• Evaluates bond payable/receivable schedules and creates journal entries for current month’s amortizations.
• Posts journal entries to the general ledger and prepares daily deposits.
• Verifies payments, disbursements and transfers with accounting documents to ensure accuracy.
• Reconciles various accounts with bank statements and control ledgers and resolves discrepancies.
• Compiles and prepares data for monthly financial statements and reports.
Additional Comments The Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) assists communities throughout New York State to undertake critical water quality infrastructure projects by providing access to low cost capital, grants, and expert technical assistance. EFC provides financial assistance from both the Federal and State levels in the form of loans, grants and guarantees as well as tax-exempt and taxable bonds in pooled and stand-alone public bond sales.
