Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.

* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of “C” or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description Under the supervision the Regional Maintenance supervisor, the incumbent is assigned to primarily diagnose and perform electrical installations throughout the Genesee Region. The incumbent will work on commercial as well as residential wiring. The incumbent will determine voltage, calculate wire sizes, install underground conduit and direct wire burial. The incumbent will also perform semi-skilled duties in metal fabrication as well as operate vehicles requiring a CDL Class “B” license and various pieces of large equipment. Such equipment may include, but is not limited to, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers and trenchers. In addition, the incumbent may be required to perform other semi-skilled trades work as assigned. Although the work of the incumbent is periodically inspected by the supervisor, the incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a craftsperson. The incumbent will use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the tasks that are assigned. At times, the incumbent will be expected to assist with various park operations and maintenance duties as needed. The incumbent will also be expected to be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYSOPRHP management.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
Must possess or obtain high voltage training within the probationary period.
The incumbent must be able to read/interpret plans, diagrams, blueprints and specifications. Must be able to understand and carry out instructions.
Must possess the ability to supervise and train others, run projects and be available to work on emergency projects, when necessary.
Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
***Must possess a New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class “B” or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must have completed chainsaw certification, CPR, First Aid & AED trainings, OR will need to complete as soon as the appropriate training is offered in the region as a term and condition of employment.
Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with other staff members.
Must have the physical ability to perform heavy lifting.
Must keep up to date on training through the CSEA partnership, SLMS and local trainings.
Must be available to work weekends and holidays as necessary.
