Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Occupational School Supervision.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant in Occupational School Supervision. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant in Occupational School Supervision, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a non-permanent provisional appointment may be considered. For non-permanent provisional appointment, candidates must have a master’s degree AND two years of experience in occupational education, career and technical education, or career training. One year of experience must include administration, oversight, or monitoring of post-secondary, vocational, occupational or career schools and/or programs. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Assistant in Occupational School Supervision when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.

Employees of ACCES who are currently in an Assistant in Occupational School Supervision position and are interested in transferring to the location indicated on this flyer MUST apply for the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services, Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant in Occupational School Supervision for its New York City location. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Monitor and provide technical assistance to post-secondary, vocational, occupational or career schools and/or programs, and ensures compliance with federal and State laws, rules, and regulations.
• Evaluate school license documents and other materials including curricula, catalogs, contracts, and advertising.
• Interpret federal and State laws, rules, and regulations concerning post-secondary, vocational, occupational or career schools and/or programs.
• Perform school inspections, which may include frequent on-site inspections of schools.
• Review and make recommendations regarding approval and renewal of licensing applications for post-secondary, vocational, occupational or career schools and/or programs.
• Collects data and draft reports to evaluate trends and problems in schools.
• Conduct trainings and participate in meetings to inform post-secondary, vocational, occupational or career schools and/or programs about new or revised laws, rules, and regulations.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent-permanent or temporary-provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Assistant in Occupational School Supervision when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $88,124 based on annual performance advances.

**Plus annual location pay differential of $3,026
