Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in elementary or secondary education AND four years of specialized experience in educational administration and/or supervision; at least two years of this experience must be in public education. A Ph.D. may substitute for one year of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the field of education, experience with presentation/training, experience working with the community schools model, a strong knowledge of the impact of social emotional and mental health needs on learning, or experience collaborating with other student and family support agencies and community-based organizations. Preference will be given to candidates who possess two years of experience at the supervisory level.
Examples of qualifying experience include assistant principal, principal, school or school district administrator, a related-service provider, such as school psychologist or school social worker, and/or a coordinator of health or safety services at the school or district level.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Higher Education is seeking candidates for two Project Coordinator positions in the Office of Student Support Services (SSS). Under the supervision of the Supervisor Education Programs, the incumbents of these positions will collaborate with location education agencies (LEAs) providing extended learning opportunities for students to address the impact of lost instruction time as well as student social emotional wellbeing and mental health needs. Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Collaborate with professional colleagues, as well as staff of the SSS office and this project, to design the plan focused on LEA staff and student wellbeing, as other NYSED office staff provide technical assistance, support, and monitoring of the work of interorganizational cohorts examining specific problems of LEA practice, and identify the needs of youth and adults due to the pandemic;
• Develop guidance for addressing the wellbeing needs of staff and students identified during the work of the LEA and BOCES cohorts, into LEA and project implementation plans;
• Introduce and embed the use of evidence-based interventions and promising practices for staff and student wellbeing into LEA plans;
• Design effective evidence-based staff and student support practices, strategies, and guidance plans that assist with the planning and facilitation of interorganizational learning for youth and adults;
• Design and implement a professional development plan to introduce LEA leadership, including School Board members, Superintendents, Principals, and other stakeholders to the pool of evidence indicating the importance of staff and student wellbeing to the overall effectiveness of LEA operation and academic instruction;
• Supervise and oversee the work of the Project Assistants; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree and work experience will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position will require 50% Statewide travel.
* Leads to a maximum salary of $105,681 based on annual performance advances.
